"Probably nothing will happen, but something might. But surely nothing will if you don't try."
-David Theune
Later that Spring another opportunity sprung about and I wrote a poem for a first grade classroom (completely different audience from Medical Professionals). My poem was about the joy of reading and how one book can take you into a world of possibilities. I was invited into the classroom to read it and when I was finished the teacher asked his students if they had any questions, they all proceeded to raise their hands. Seeing all of their smiling, curious faces was such a reward. I realized that my writing could affect people in a positive way, not just adults, but younger children too.
Finally, at the end of the Spring trimester I was asked by my Advanced Composition teacher to work with some of my fellow students and him on a podcast for #MichEd. We met numerous amounts of time to brainstorm, record, and edit our piece. We discussed what types of activities we thought were beneficial to the classroom. It was published on #MichEd's website for educators, parents, and students State-Wide. Working with a group of peers and a teacher outside of the classroom was yet again, another rewarding experience. Not just because of the piece itself, but because of the group. Being a part of something where I made a positive impact and a difference in the final product made me realize, yet again, I can make an impact!
SO-take initiative follow your PASSION, because you never know what might happen, but surely nothing will if you don't try.
